According to the 1976 YB she is a Phil Morrison designed Hooligan and was built in 1975 by Bob Hoare. She was called Fireworks and her first registered owner was W Walsh of Chase SC.
From 1977 to at least 1980 she was owned by D R Moseley of Midland SC.
I am missing the 81 YB but by 1982 she was owned by M. Rudd of Worcester. No SC is shown.
By 1983 she had gone to Wales. Her owner was D Harries of the Brenig SC.
The 1986 YB says her owner was T Saint at Bala SC and by 87 she was owned by T Henderson, address unknown, of the same club.
There seems to be no record of changes of ownership again until the 2033 YB that shows the owner and MROA member as John Freeman, 77 Cranleigh Rd, Southbourne, Bournmouth, BH6 5JX. Tel 01202 385148. You may have bought Fireworks from him but, if not, you might try to ring that number.

2033 Yearbook? Wow - slightly ahead of me there. Urm, who wins the next 10 championships? Feel like a little flutter at the bookies!

The "Garry" who is about to restore 3001 is NOT me!!! Having done 2 Merlins in the last 18months I am retiring from the refurbishment fray. Best of luck from my namesake!

Hi Garry
Nice to have some news of 3001, Fireworks, that as mentioned I owned from 77 to 80 and sold to someone local to Birmingham, probably the chap in the comment, from Worcester. I sailed the boat at Lenchford SC on a very narrow bit of the River Severn near Worcester and at Midland SC a smallish resevoir in the middle of Bham which was always very competitive and hectic with boats all around you. As it was my first Merlin I could not say if it was suited or not to these conditions. My most memorable time in the boat was at a club regatta on the sea in Newquay, Wales in force 4-5 winds with a light weight crew where we planed from wave to wave going twice the speed of any other boat. The boat was a lightish red when I owned it.
Regards and good luck with her.

David
