Topic : Cool Merlin Footage

Check out the vids including much merlin footage.

Also, for 10 points, spot the poor radio discipline on one of the videos.........

Ok, don't want to upset anyone here but, are these two tackers not blatantly cheating, as they both come out of their tacks at about 3 times the speed they went in at.....

on the the white boat 3516, is that violent pump/rock legal as the boat is not going through a tack? there does not look to be any gusts or waves to permit such move????
i am new to racing and this action scares the life from me! it looks more like mechanics rather than sailing.
then you have the novice that is afraid to protest for such move for being seen as a bad sport!!! or is it the continual offenders that jog their way up the track that are the bad sports!!

there looked like enough wind to make such rocking irrelevant.
in a drifting contest you do get some poeple who rock their way around, this is not sporting and you ought to holler some abuse!

1st boat carrying out a roll tack, second boat certainly being naughty.

The video merlin1994_02 looks like a straight pumping race to me.

Can someone clarify precisely what the rules are please?

To a fellow novice it would appear to be

"Don't get caught"

Read rule 42.3(b). It seems most M/R sailors break this rule every time they tack!!!

It's dreadful.

They should be playing rock 'n roll really

Regarding the poor radio discipline. It was a proper communication between the two boats on each end of the start line, between two licensed radios & two licensed operators.

Thanks for the support, as last time it was pounced on as being ok, I wounder if that's because there at the camp's in light air's floughting rule 42???
ps I am in one ouf the other boats, that wasn't pumping, just a normal role tack round the bouy.

Looks like a lot of crews having big problems with their top batten ?????

Aren't you allowed one big roll when you tack? (needed for top batten popping in light winds by us, haven't found another way)

Law says you can't come out of the tack faster than you wnet in.
