Topic : Any gossip/news/results from the champs?

Has anybody been in contact with Hayling who can shed some preliminary light?

Results are on the Hayling Website - www.hisc.co.uk.
Sunday was cancelled due to too much wind.
Monday very warm and light winds.

Here we go again.... day 3 of our 60 year old class National championships with 78 attendees and not a single whisper to the outside world as to what is going on. Perhaps the first update might be out in about 2 weeks. Not good!

Perhaps you'd like to do it?
However I don't suppose the sponsor is too chuffed about the lack of exposure!
But then maybe they look on it as charity?

I'm sorry, but this is all we've got at present.

Let's not forget that those at the Championship are there either to compete to win (after all it is about finding a National Champion) or enjoying a holiday, rather than focusing on writing press reports. As nice as it would be to see daily reports, is it fair on those who are there to give up their time for those who are not!

Perhaps ring a friend. Hopefully most of us will have one out of the many competitors. Mind you if you keep bothering them maybe they won't be friends for long!

No worries, I'm just over-enthusiastic but I'm stuck behind a computer, waiting for my new carbon, humming

"I'm thinking about my carbon, when you gonna bring it, when you gonna bring it?" to the tune of the new White Stripes single......

Sorry chaps. Don't want to sound like i am whinging.Last thing I would want to do. I am a firm believer in promoting/exposing our class as much as possible through whatever channels, Y&Y etc.. If other classes can get their reports to Y&Y PDQ then why can't we? I appreciate it is voluntary to write the reports, I have previously served on the Committee for several years so I know all about voluntary work and how time consuming it can be!!

It's all very well jumping on the HISC website and seeing a list of participants but for an outsider who shows an interest in the class looking in it will mean diddly squat.

The point I am trying to make is for the class to survive you need members and the only way apart from attracting new blood through club exposure is coverage on the net, spreading the word what a first class boat we sail. If we miss this and other opportunities then this memorable event will come and go without involving a captive audience and potential newcomers.

I would be quite happy to serve on the committee again as publicity officer, but for now the position remains filled.

We need an events coordinator though ;o)

Mags

I am sure that Jennie King drew up a rosta at the beginning of the season of report writers and the event that was to be covered? I don't think everyone adhered to it though!

As for the champs, surely as part of the preperations there would have been a designated person to write the reports.

Going back to what I said in an earlier thread, and for all you sherlocks out there my identity will be exposed, except for you Mags as you can see who I am, if I was a sponsor I would be pretty pissed off by now having not got atleast the coverage I had envisaged!

I don't want to moan about moaners, (People love to find any reason to talk not do.) but.. if instead of moaning you lifted the results from the HISC web site in text and or HTML and simply fwded it to Y&Y, Sailing.com; Scuttlebut; YBW etc etc job done. In far less time than it took you to moan!!!! The sponsor will not be inpressed if they do not get their coverage! It's sponsorship not charity.

Is that really right that No 2018 had a 3rd in the 1st race, a 1st place in the 3rd race (and a 32 discard to get rid of!!) and is lying 5th overall!!!! This is the sail number I see but the boat number is what? This must be great news for all us old guys if this is the boat number too!!! Having done a bit of research this seems to be Krakatoa restored recently and featured in a magazine as far as I recall so even better news for the restoration squad. Come on the oldies!!!!

have you SEEN Krakatoa - she is no oldie even if her sail number is. very pretty.

How are the "Beaver Patol" going? They popped in a great capsize @ Harlow to finish last? Has the comeback been a success?

What's with the PY numbers too, WTF is that all about?

How is the Wild Card (Brand spanking new supa dupa one-string Winder thing) a lower number than PK's EZ-Roller?

So many questions from one so young.....

The results on the HISC website are for the Holt Plate I would imagine. Each helm is given a PY based on their respective ability, the idea being that the middle order batters have a trophy to aim for.

Yesterday's race results are as follows:
1 Phil King
2 Richard Whitworth
3 Dave Winder
4 Glen Truswell

It seems very unfair that Andrew Harris has a Holt Plate handicap of 1080? What on earth did he do to deserve this?

Posted: 17/08/2005 09:24:18
By: Tee Hee
Given the others on 1080, seems very fair to me. Perhaps he should simply pull his finger out and sail to his handicap as a certain Mr Wilder has !!

Arrived home from 60th Anniversary Dinner at 3.30am very tired but glad to have gone. A gathering of the great and the good and a host of our Class Champions from over the years were presented with a momento and record of their success. Tales were told, strong was taken (Dandy Ralby lead from the front on the wine wave with Table 9 winning by one bottle of Sambuka and no caualties)and much chatting. As ever there is never enough time and the dratted bar closed - perhaps this new fangled 24 hours opening will lead to the end of this early closing nonsense.
With no yottin' sunday due to strong breeze and the fleet not getting ashore until 7pm on Monday after two races perhaps it is not surprising that press reports are a bit slow!!

are the results on the HISC web site Holt Plate handicap Results? They don't seem to track with those published after two days in any way!
I only ask!

I've emailed their (HISC) webmaster to ask them to post the other results too!

Wish they were all as efficient as our Mags.....

If only they were; MAGS is a marvel.Every class needs a MAGS not many have one. He should be distilled and bottled and the class should club together to give him that Carbon Mast and new rig NOW!!!!

Steady on Ancient Geek - if he goes out sailing who is going to do the housework on the site!!! Seriously I think the website is great - it works, is informative and surely that's what it is all about. Now Mags - plaudits coming from all directions!!

Have just realised that if Mags is as good as we believe then next year no boat will be required - he'll just walk on the water!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If he overtakes me without a crew I'll protest him.

Address to send donations for carbon mast can be found in the yearbook...

Check the following link from HISC and they might update it to include race 4 tonight.

It would be great to get a breakdown of gear that the top six were using, ie Hull/builder/design, foils, mast/boom, sails
