Topic : Whitstable Silver Tiller this weekend- Parking news

There have been some changes at Whitstable since the Silver Tiller Guide was produced.
Boat parking will be on the western arm of the harbour where the club now has a dinghy park. When you arrive in the harbour, please don't drive on to the beach as in the past but go right onto the harbour arm. there will be someone to direct you. Please note we are not allowed to park cars there so unhitch your boat, dump your kit, drive out of the harbour, turn left and:-

Park in the Gorrell Tank 200 yard down the road by the traffic lights. Canterbury City Council has just raised the Pay and Display parking charges so you will need £1.60 for all day Saturday and 60p for Sunday - so bring the required change.

Look forward to seeing you there

Great windy sail at Whitstable today.

For anyone going tomorrow, there was only one race today due to the rescue team being stretched in the first race (2 broken masts - Mike Stephens and Nat Fuller (again)) so I expect there will be 3 back to back tomorrow so you could qualify on just the Sunday.

If I can remember the results right they were 1st Alan Warren, 2nd Judith Massey, 3rd Paul Davies with 19 finishers out of 32 entries.

Rob and I were 12th but unfortunately I won't be there tomorrow.

Only 2 broken masts? You obviously weren't looking close enough, if you count Louise track failure, I think there were 5.

p.s. anyone think I should or shouldn't present my insurance company with the second claim in 2 week?

p.s. Chris Martin, don't worry it wasn't your mast.

Who did you say you were insured with Alan? [thinks - do I have to take my business elsewhere before either they stick the premiums up or start refusing Merlins altogether]

Ah well - I actually sailed at Hampton, got there for the last race of the regatta after parent-sitting all weekend. After a 720 at the start (up the Commodore's transom) a 360 for hitting a mark and getting out to push after going heavily aground I just hope I have got it all out of my system for Salcombe week!!

Andrew, please let me know who you are insured with. I thought your claims exceeded £2,000 based on recent posts. I don't think I have anywhere near caught you up.

Many thanks to Whitstable for a fantastic weekends yachting - this season's thread of self destructing continues apace - we stand guilt as charged!!

After Saturday's swim fest, Sunday was what the sport is all about - very many congratulations to the race team and whoever communes with the local weather Gods. The last two weekends have fulfilled the same template - terrific wind and sun. If I hadn't visited Whitstable so often over the years to know different - I could be believing it was like that all the time. For Rein to commute form Holland to sail each weekend it must be special!

Well done too to Alan Warren & Liam - can somebody Please persuade Al to retire gracefully!!!!

If you hold down the Alt key and type a number in on the numeric keypad, you can access the all of the 255 ASCII Chara set.
ie
alt 136 = ê
alt 137 = ë
alt 138 = è

Alan Warren, should not retire, he should be preserved and if necessary when his time comes to be his own "client" stuffed and worked by electricity, it's a sad reflection though on the young that a man of 70 or thereabouts can thrash them not forgetting ex chairman Pat who must be 60+. Maybe the great Tom Lehrers avowed intent of prolonging adolsence beyond that yet achieved is being done in the Merlin Rocket class!
Say it again Alan must not retire and if he does disgracefully not gracefully!

I know Alan W pretty well and I'm sure he won't retire as long as his sober and celibate crew Liam continues to sail with him - however once Liam discovers booze and women it may be a different story !!!!

The worrying thing is, is that Liam has discovered booze and women!!

Fortunately he doesn't know how to handle either.

Time Zulu's curse lives on then, more time with Phil Scott than on the water??

Big respect to Alan - he sailed brilliantly at the weekend and he's a master of the art. If any of us can sail anywhere near as well as that when we're 70, then we have a right to be proud of ourselves!

I have often been accused of spending more time with Phil Scott than on the water. Cant always get the boat in the pub though.
