Sounds a simple job!!! but after refitting a new boom, I am making a real hash of re- rigging the main sheet. Would somebody please give this ignoramous some advice on the right track the main sheet should take from top of square hoop to helms hand. There are two blocks on the top of the hoop and obviously two on the boom. |
Have a look at mine in the rigging file '3236' |
PS Or! under Mainsheet (carbon hoop is 3236) |
I think I can just make out order from pics thanks Barry, is the end ( opp from helms hand) just knotted on top of hoop... I've got a small hoop about one inch diameter at top of main hoop which I presume is where the main sheet finishes? So many hoops so little time!!!!! As an addition, a small flotilla of Merlins including mine are planning a weekend sailing off Shell Island in North Wales (Llanbedr) has anybody sailed there before? |
Put the one end of the main through the block near the end of the boom and tie a knot in it. Pass the other end of the main through a hoop block and up to and through the forward boom end block, bring the main back down to the other hoop block, pass it through the block and the hoop to the jammer. I sail with this set up in all conditions. If you need extra purchase, take the knot out of the back block and bring the sheet down to a D - ring fixed to the first hoop block. (Or block with becket). I have the D - Ring option but have never needed it. |
