Topic : Pulled screw holes

Sure it has been asked before - but what is best method to repair holes in wood when a screw has been pulled out?

My hiking strap pulled out last weekend and hole looks rough - don't just want to put a bigger screw in it.

Let it dry out, screw it in having filled hole with epoxy and put some on the screw, better still bolt it!

Better still dry it out, fill with resin/fibres, then put screw in before the resin cures.

Then a thread is formed in the resin without having to self tap one after it's set.

Get a west or SP handipack.

Should come with all the filler additives you need.

Araldite and sqawdust will do it fine!

To get squawdust do you have to rub down a female American Indian and where do you get them?

By: Rather suggestive thread title!
Yes, I usually clean out the resulting hole and remake using epoxy with a filler - "Araldite" is easy to keep in the tool box. Before I push the screw into the uncured resin, I apply release agent to the screw so that it is not difficult to unscrew at a future time (shoe polish is usually closest to hand and works well). I also apply some resin directly to the screw thread before pushing it into the hole to ensure contact.
I usually use this method when putting a screw in for the first time if I think that I will remove the screw several times e.g. fixings for compass brackets, drink container clips, &c.. I usually drill quite an oversize hole for these, the resin infill then protects the wood from ingress of water/rot.

You sure know how to make people start feeling old,
shoe polish on screws!next it'll be candlewax I don't see any mention of that in the Harken catalog.
Talking of old tips and this is way off thread, Compasses if need to refil Johnsons baby oil in oil filled models , Vodka or Gin in alcohol but don't tell the crew.(about the oil!)

Thanks for advice - have bought tube of Plastic Padding's Marine Filler - hope it does what it says on the side of the box! Will repair it and see what happens on Sunday (hope its not a backflip when the straps come loose!) Couldn't find sqaws but there are pleanty of "Pale Skins" around after the winter months.

I always used some araldite and a match or two
Mix glue coat match stick and poke into hole use second stick if needed, then before it sets screw in fitting, never had one pull out even with my weight on toe strap,
