MERLIN ROCKET FORUM

Topic : Visiting UK, Blithfield?

Esteemed Rocketeers

I was hoping for a little assistance here from members at Blithfield SC, or anywhere within about 1-2 hours drive. I will be in Stafford April 15th thru 19th and was hoping for the opportunity to photograph, sketch, push, pull, prod, poke and otherwise get up-close and overly familiar with a real, genuine and previously unadulterated Merlin Rocket.
It would be helpful, but not imperative, that it be deck-stepped. I could probably do with an hour or more of your time to discuss and demonstrate rigging, stringing, taping, fixings and fittings. Best places for things such as cleats, bouyancy fixings, halyards, stays, cup-holders etc.
If anyone can help I would be very grateful.
Thanks

John, NY, USMR01

Banbury SC is no more than about 2 hours drive from Stafford (at least the way I drive!) and you would be welcome to visit. I can be fairly flexible on timings and we have selection ranging from Canterbury Tales & Thin Ice designs right back to NSMs (I, II & 4) and Summer Wine, both deck and hog stepped.

Also looking at the dates, you could also come along to the Open meeting at Shustoke (just a few miles east of Birmingham Airport / NEC on Sunday 17th.

Either give me a call or email.

John you are most welcome to drop in to Blithfield where Merlins will be racing on the Sunday afternoon -some at 12.00 and probably a few more for 2pm and 4pm races. We are the nearest Merlin fleet to Stafford (15mins). Check out our website for directions (blithfield.org.uk)
Not sure exactly who will be about on that day but look out for me with 3612 (Easy Roller design) Matt Biggs in 3617 (a Winder 3 Canterbury Tales), Steve Leney in 3639 (a Winder 4 Tales)Pete Smith in 3549 (a Let it Ride),Pete Male 3547 (Honeymoon) or Tom Chadfield 3515 (Canterbury Tales) for a selection of plastic and wood modern deck stepped Merlin designs and layouts. Our club commodore Norman Price is a Merlin sailor (3342 Summer Wine)and our fleet captain Tim Male (3339 Summer Wine) is another good man to ask for when you arrive.

Well, the response was over-whelming with the messages and emails. Thanks very much. Decided what i'd do was go to Blithfield on the Sunday although i'm not sure about the "Bring sailing gear" stuff. I build boats better than I sail them, so you know my sailing has gotta be real bad! Not to mention the fact that I have a kinda broad reach at the stern these days!

The Shustoke thing is real tempting, if it had been Saturday there would have been no contest!
Thanks again.

John

Hi all.

Shustoke is the place to be on Sunday 17th to look at beautiful things.

Without be rude to Blithfield, I trust there will not be any Merlins there that day!!!
