Topic : Shroud height! Latest thinking!!

Okay whats the latest opinions on the height of the shroud terminals above the forestay exit?
Zero, old fashioned no prebend.
100mm, small amount of prebend.
This is for a carbon stick, I'm on the Isle of Wight
and therefore 'don't get out much!!' Your thoughts much appriciated, Barry.

Although my crystal ball isn’t currently functioning I’m confident he’s referring to jib halyard exit. Some people are so flippin pedantic, nothing a sharp slap wouldn’t remedy.

Surely a forestay is anything that supports the mast forward? Ergo a Wire luffed jib and haliyard are doing the job of an independent forestay last fitted to a competative MR circa 1962! Though I guess with deck stepped masts these may be making a come back Mike Jackson used to have a forestay that he threaded his jiob luff through with w thin wire just to limit stretch rather like Etchells Dragon etc though of course they use zips!

OK, have mast at side of house so measurement between top of jib halyard pulley and shroud attachment on SuperSpar carbon (most likely the 1st batch and a stiff mast by carbon standards) is 70mm approx. Suspect major part of thinking on this one is a) have shrouds above not below jib sheave with spinny above b) have enough distance between to reduce local weakness from drilling lots of holes at the same point.

Yes okay I was refering to Hounds above Jib halliard , I've noted that on various photos this appears to be around 100mm. Back in the dark ages we used to vary this from 150-350mm to vary the pre-bend on set up on 505 rigs. I was just wondering what the fast thinking was now. Thanks Andrew for your input, Barry.

I used to have a Proctor Beta Minus on Super Nova 2315. The hounds were very high to stiffen up the topmast sideways as the taper was considerable but the lower part of the mast very stiff. That isn't a problem with carbon.

Measured Tom's boat last night and his hounds are 70mm above spin halyard exit, making them 4290 above the lower band.

Thanks Graham, If I could be a pain what was the distance between the jib box & the hounds?
Cheers Barry.

PS, I assume jib Box at max 4170

4160 to the bearing surface of the sheave. All the boats have 2:1 jib halyards now, so the dead end of the halyard is 100mm lower.
