Topic : Paint

Please could someone tell me what paint to do my deck with?

Before you all shout "varnish you idiot" I have White Whale - so named for it's all-over, persil style whiter than white virginal whiteness....

It will need to be brushed on BTW...

Thanks

Jon

International or Blakes two-pack should do the job.

Car paint (as used on hulls by a lot of pros) is not hard wearing enough for decks really.

Thanks Chris....

Slight problem, I bought paint today and I went for the single-pack international as i thought it the safer bet..... Is it going to react badly with the 2-pack or will it be ok? I have not opened it yet so I can take it back. I've been prepping it today and it would seem that the bubbling on the paintwork is caused by a layer of paint applied on top of the original paint sprayed on by R&M years ago... If that new layer of paint is single pack will 2-pack react badly when applied to it?

take it back, and make sure your surface prep is immaculate, dirt and grease free. wear latex gloves if poss to avoid contamination from hands and use the correct degreaser/thinners for the product.

Take the bubbling stuff down to the Rowsell paint as much as possible.

It sounds to me more like bad prep work than a reaction.

The origional paint had been on long enough to be inert now so you'll get away with putting anything on, but i'd still use two pack for it's durability and hardness.

Ditto, After this sort of time you should not have a problem using one pot poly, The other comments on prep our totally correct. All old bubbling, loose, unwanted layers of paint should be removed.
Prior to painting wipe off with either Alcohol or acetone (dont let it puddle or hang around!) to remove any traces of dirt, grease or old polish (yes they probably did!) to get the best possible key.
And my tip for invalidity allowance try & paint decks with boat upside down at resonable hieght.
Or wet & dry 1200 grede & polish (foredeck) to finish Also try foam brushes they dont leave hairs or lines. best of luck Barry.

Those foam 'jenny' brushes really do work - dont use bristles!

You can get jenny brushes in variety packs on ebay really cheaply and they are fantastic for varnish finishes. They remove all the orangepeel effect after you roll the varnish on and almost gflaze the surface. You have to get the timing right though and have a good build up of coats. Never tried then on paint though.
