Halyards are not mentioned in the rules as far as I can see. The rules are available on the RYA web site, and of course if you join the Merlin Association, you'll get the hand book too.

Jeremy, good morning.
There is no prescription for a jib halyard - you don't need to have one if you don't want one. There was a fad a few years ago for just hooking the strop at the head of the jib into the mast. This did not last terribly long once the perpetrators had tried standing the (Aluminium) mast with the jib set in anything of a breeze!

Jeremy if you still have the old halliard it would be wise to set the rig up albiet under minimal tension you may find that she was rigged with a multihole link plate fitted on the head of the jib to the haliard. This gave more posible ajustment to the rig, especialy if she has quadrent levers fitted. If no halliard then you might consider using a link plate as part of your set up. Lastly 3 to 3.5 7x19 is standard stainless wire 2.5 is for those well insured! All the best Barry, 3236.

PS, I use this system and can get 2" to 16" of rack with the quadrents. which just for confution I'm about to replace with a multi block system. Barry
