Merlin champs harbour j

BHYC have hosted National and European championships before. We will be keeping the boats on the south side of the harbour entrance from where launching is possible in all states of tide and all but the very worst of conditions with sheltered launching possible with the wind in any direction.

Racing will be to the north of St Helens Fort out of the tidal eddies giving conditions most similar to racing at Tenby, albeit on Solent chop rather than long rolling waves.

The clubs in the area all join forces for large events in the East Wight Combined Clubs. This means we will have access to more than enough boats and volunteers to ensure a smooth week. Crucially we will have a boat at both ends of the start line. The surrounding area is simply beautiful. The town of Bembridge is nearby with plenty of holiday homes and pubs and shops plus a fantastic beach from where we launch all the way south past the lifeboat station, behind the reef to the base of Culver Down – a very pleasant walk at low tide along the beach, at high tide along the coastal path. In the opposite direction is the small town of St Helens and further round the well-known village of Seaview again with plenty of accommodation, pubs and eating houses.

Accommodation on the island is often run by very small family based businesses and they often don’t release the next years dates until much later than we would consider normal – keep checking.

You will need to be a Class member to enter these events.
