Sorry, we have no details for any more events this year!
Training is an important part of the Association's activities. As far as members are concerned the main benefits are the annual programme of training events, and the information we publish in the magazine and on the website. You can download copies of the fact sheets or pre-training boat check used at our training events.
In the background we assist clubs to organize their own events, maintain a team of RYA qualified coaches and provide advice to competitors and organisers alike.
Keeping Up To Date
The magazine and website will normally contain the latest news and a list of forthcoming training events. On a national basis we have been running a three-day event at Rutland in the spring and a specialist sea event later in the year, and these have been supplemented by club events which are supported and co-ordinated by the Association.
For more detailed information please phone or email, and we will do our best to help. If you would like an event organised at your own or a nearby club, ask your Regional Rep to get in touch. We should be able to provide a qualified coach to lead the day, waterproof video camera, handouts and other equipment.
The Coaching Team
It is one of the Association's objectives to encourage more training and coaching, and a key element of this is to maintain a strong training team. We have arranged for almost a dozen of the most capable sailors in the class to become qualified as RYA Coaches and Powerboat Drivers, and to maintain validation by means of regular first aid updates and refreshers at the RYA 'Topmark' events. See the team here.
Future Coaches
Although we have been most fortunate to receive a great deal of help in running our various class training events, many of the helpers are not qualified either in coaching skills or even in many cases as powerboat skippers. Furthermore the demand for local race training at club level has traditionally outstripped the Association's resources.
This seems to be pretty general across the country and classes, so the RYA has introduced a new scheme to produce more Club Coaches, with a view to assembling the resources to run a co-ordinated programme of one-day club training events. If you are interested in getting involved please contact us! Those running events can download copies of our guidance sheets.
