'Wotnot' was the first MR built by John Freeman in Newhaven. It replaced the older boat Krakatoa a Lones design built by Rowsell in which we came 2nd in the nationals in Poole in 1967.
The boat was designed by Tony Watts who was the RYA chief measurer and also a fellow sailor at SMYC. He went on to higher things and became the chief measurer at the Olympics in Kiel in 1972 . You will notice that the boat was built from some very special ply. If I remember rightly we managed to get some with an extra ply in it. It was slightly stiffer for the thickness. The design proved really fast and Alan sold the boat very quickly after winning 2/4 open meetings in succession. The design was particularly good in a breeze. Being 6' 8'' helped a little!
We won in 1969 with Krakawot at Whitstable after a real tussle with Mike McNamara and again in 1970 at Pwllheli with Superwot in the biggest fleet of Merlin Rockets ever at a championships (238).
Agreat boat, great design and a really good builder.
