MERLIN ROCKET FORUM

Topic : Salcombe Silver Tiller. 13th/14th April 2019

We are keenly looking forward to seeing everyone at the Salcombe ST on 13th and 14th April.  Our sincere thanks in advance for supporting our event.

The NOR and entry link is as below. As of today, thirty four of you have entered via our pioneering and famous entry process link: thank you!

There is more:

On Friday soir for those of you are in town in time, Hywel Bowen Perkins is delivering the story of Elvin, his own Dunkirk Little Ship. This will be a most fascinating presentation and well worth attending: thank you in advance Hywel.

The talk is free but we would like to know numbers. We are also offering a meal too (which is not free). The talk and meal, (either or both) are bookable via the following link:

And yet more!

On Saturday evening we have…..BYNG'S BINGO and meal. This, we are assured is even more bonkers than Byng’s Pig racing. Again, if you would like to come, please do book via the following link.

Finally, there is also the prospect of racing your lovely Merlin in the Salcombe Ria, which is waiting patiently for you all. At the time of posting, the Ria is sublime in the spring sunshine.

Best wishes

SYC

Graham. Merlin 3769.

We're heading down for this one (at least, that's the plan at the moment).

It's a long time since I sailed at Salcombe, and I'm sure that the last time I was there I completed the week with a fixed rudder.

Can someone please confirm that my memory isn't failing me and that it is possible to sail there with a fixed rudder.

Many thanks

Rob

It is sailable with a fixed rudder but not preferable when considering weed and shallows.....

:-)

Oliver,

Thanks for that. I have a patented weed stick and will rely upon the plate kicking up to give me warning I need to move to deeper water. (The ability to beat against the tide in shallower water isn't going to be the thing that makes the biggest difference to our finishing position !!)

Cheers

People do, sail with fixed rudders. Caution is simply required. Looking forward to seeing you.

That was brilliant fun !  Thank you to everyone who helped make it happen.

I'd forgotten how fluky the wind could be there.
