Topic : Details of ‘Witchcraft’

Does anyone know anything about the Merlin Rocket ‘Witchcraft’?

Specifically, designer and general design? Where does she fit in the evolution of the Merlin Rocket? A classic or a Rover Metro? ( I know some would argue that’s a classic)

I am looking at buying her, and would like to be a little bit competitive.

Witchcraft is the name given to one of the very early Merlins, in fact 130.  She was built to the original Holt Merlin design and built by Jack himself in 1947.  She would not be competitive with current Merlin designs but would be eligible for the vintage DeMay series and also to compete in the Classic and Vintage Racing Dinghy Association (CVRDA) events.

On checking Year book, could be Whitchcraft II, number1257, an Ian Procter Mk.14 design built by Wyche and Coppock in 1961.  Again not competitive with current designs.  The boat number should be cut into the thwart or into the hog just aft of the centreboard case.

Mike,

Thank you for the detailed and quick response. I think she is Witchcraft 2, but I’ll check the number.
