MERLIN ROCKET FORUM

Topic : Banbury ST

Hope you're all ready to come up / down to Banbury on Sunday. After the cancellation last year as a result of the drought (difficult to recall now after the wettest summer on record in 2012), we have more than enough water this year. Just need the boats to make use of it.

Current forecasts are for strongish southerly winds which is an excellent direction at Banbury - should provide good sport for all ut of course it could all change!

Looks like being quite warm at the weekend - unheard of temperatures of 19 C being quoted - will make a pleasant change from the freezing Wembly and Salcombe. Forecast is for a decent wind from the south so should be good fun - one long beat up the lake and gybing all the way down.

As well as being a restricted Silver Tiller event, it is also part of the Midland Circuit and results will be extracted for Midlanders.

Will Ben turn out to defend his lead in the Silver Tiller?

We won't be challenging Ben this weekend; hope you all have a good time. Would have been nice to sail in some warmer weather! See you at Hayling.

The weather nerds are still promising a stiff SSW breeze and temperatures of 18c for Sunday. Should provide a lot of spinnaker gybing practice.

Food & cakes are all ready - just need the boats.

Despite our Chairman's pessimistic post, 12 boats turned up, only 1 broken mast and rudder with all three races being sailed. Matt Biggs/John Hackett was 1st with the Calverts second and Chris Martin/Tom White in 3rd.

Report and full results will follow.

16 crews turned up but 4 never got afloat, it made for great spectator sport and watching the team work of the top crews was almost as good as some of the wipeouts!

Is anyone missing some kit from last Sunday at Banbury? I found two pieces of kit in the men's changing room after Sunday. Have a look in your sailing bags and if anybody is missing anything, please send me an email.

Didn't know that we had a restaurant but I'll have a look. I can recall a blue beany but not sure about a black one.

Deepy can you email me with your postal address and I'll send the beanie on. Sorry for slight delay but forgot to pick it up from the club on Sunday but now have it. I imagine that it was of the four legged make.

Hi Richard,
Did I leave a grey & blue buoyancy aid and a black (long necked) spray top at the open meeting? If you have them, is there anyone going to rutland from thee you would possibly pass them on to?
Many thanks,
Andy Dalby

Richard, I will be at Rutland all weekend if that's any use and you can get them to me at Braunston.

Andy - I don't think so as the black one that I thought had been left has been claimed by a member. I will check again over the weekend just in case it has been put somewhere strange at our end. Apologies for teh slow response but I was out most of Wednesday and then running a polling station all day on Thursday - only just surfacing.
