For those of you thinking of holidays for next year that might not include sailing(eek!) I can recommend a lovely gite available in the western side of the beautiful Dordogne in France for extremely reasonable rates.

The house sleeps 6 adults/children comfortably and has an extra cot for proper little ones. Its set in the middle of the countryside surrounded by vines and is perfect for a family getaway along with plenty of opportunity to indulge in the local fayre ;-). 

The property is set in lovely secure gardens and is great for children, with a plethora of attractions and pursuits nearby whether you want to chill out, keep children entertained at one of the lakes, or go in search of some history. 

It gets very hot in the summer and the winters tend to be mild so there's a time for everyone temperature-wise.

The rates are constant all year round, but it gets booked pretty quickly through the summer and around school holidays.

NB: If you get really desperate for some water activity, you can go canoeing on the Dordogne (hard work!) or surfing at Arcachon (BIG waves!).
