As the helm sometimes has to pull this up suggest 4mm is more hand friendly but 3.5mm lighter.

What bearing does the helm having to touch it have? Is the implication that their hands are Fairy Liquid Soft & Gentle - like mother's?

Dear GGGGG - You must be right as usual.
Sometimes I get to pull the kite up from the after deck when Madam permits but I had to move to the sharp end during the Nats when herself was injured (ashore). I could only get some bloke from another class who was better qualified to helm than do advanced knitting so I tore my little pinkies to shreds. Sob sob.
