| merlin197_yachtingworld.jpg | Mags | Mercury II, scanned by Jonathan Reubin, who says... She has an interesting mast step arrangement of a wooden stub finishing about 2ft above the sheerline supported by "lowers" and what looks to be a rotating metal mast mounted upon it. The boom appears to have guys attached to small speaders at the base of the mast to control rotation. Oh, and the tiller is a hoop affair and the hull is clinker. | 04 October 2011 11:05 |
| measuring_rake2.jpg | Chris M | Because unless you have a moulded hull there is no guarantee that that transom height will be the same between two boats. If you have a Winder hull its much easier becasue the boats are identical and you can do this. Theres a guy at my old club who spends ages setting his wooden Ent up exactly to the tuning guide, yet you watch him sail and he has far more rake than the plastic boats. Reason: the height of his transom is differant! He wont have it though, even having been shown photos!! | 20 September 2011 23:01 |
| measuring_rake2.jpg | John Reekie | I am new to Merlins so apoligies for the silly questions but how do you ensure the boat is flat. If you tip the boat forwards or back then the measurement would change. Why do you not measure to the transom like other classes? | 17 September 2011 21:01 |

| 1079_passing_cloud.jpg | Robert Harris | MR1079 Passing Cloud was built by Jack Holt for my dad Harry Harris in 1960 so shes 50 this year. In this photo taken at Tamesis in 2009 she is being helmed by my fathers grandson Richard and crewed by his great grandson Harry. Around a dozen members of the Harris family have raced in Passing Cloud at one time or another. With an updated rig and sails Passing Cloud remains very competitive in the environment for which she was designed and built. | 24 August 2010 12:02 |

| 206_manhandling_spinnaker.jpg | Richard Winter | It is definitely Ossie (though I believe it may have been Ozzy) Rissen of Thames Ditton. He purchased 758 a Rigden boat for his daughters and later became mine for many years. Wogs was the nickname of his wife. | 30 May 2010 12:04 |
